We are delighted to be able to offer Choral Scholarships with support from the Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust. If you know of any young people who will be over the age of 16 on 1st September 2025 who might be interested, please do put them in touch! We are looking for four scholars - one for each voice part of Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. They will be young people aspiring to a musical career and seeking to improve their vocal skills and gain concert experience. We can pay £200 per term as well as free membership of the choir. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please do out them in touch. They are welcome to come to rehearsals this term to get to know us. We have part-funding for this from the HRTCT - so do look out for more updates as we start fundraising to cover the difference! Great to see record breaking numbers at our "Come Sing the Beatles" workshop yesterday! With around 100 singers we made a grand sound! Thank you to everyone who came and those who worked behind the scenes to make it happen! |
We had a fabulous evening accompanied by an amazing soprano soloist, a professional brass ensemble and percussion singing: Rutter: Gloria Chilcott: Jubilate Bruckner: Geistliche Chore We are now looking forward to our summer event in partnership with the Euphonix Choir with concerts in both Coulsdon and Kingston. |
We had an amazing evening celebrating the life and works of Henry Purcell . Rejoice in the Lord Alway and the Funeral Sentences were followed by Dido and Aeneas complete with witches and other characters - regal and scary in turn! It was a musical feast!

This year we were delighted to be involved once again in the community at the Coulsdon Yuletide event on Saturday 7th December. The weather was attrocious but our spirits were up as we celebrated by leading the singing of festive carols and other favourites. Thankfully we were toasty warm and dry indoors at the Coulsdon Centre as the wind and rain lashed down outside! Indeed, we were warmer and drier than we were at the Old COulsdon Fayre in July so thank you to everyone that put in so much effort to arrange this. We were delighted to see family and friends braving the elements for this celebration of the festive season where there were many stalls as well as other fabulous entertainment on the central stage - although the childrens' rides sadly could not attend. |
At Downland we love to collaborate and this year we were invited to work with Coulsdon College, just around the corner from us. We supported their Christmas Carol Concert joining with them to sing festive favourites for the residents of Toldene Court on Friday 20th November. With a mix of traditional carols and more modern favourites we had the residents rocking down memory lane! |
We are starting the new singing year refreshed after the summer holidays. But the break in singing has been used to great effect with a new website, a new App for Members making our learning resources more easily accessible to Members and a new Banner Stand to brighten up our image and support us as we seek to grow our membership. As a community choir we are open to everyone or every age and ability. If you love singing, Downland is for you! We have no auditions. We are looking for opportunities to grow our membership and last week we had a stand at Coulsdon College, talking to both students and staff about joining us. We were made very welcome and will be looking to grow our relationship throughout the year. If you know anyone who loves to sing, they are very welcome to come along and visit us! |
Our first rehearsal back in the Autumn Term is on 2nd September: All are welcome to come and give us a try with no obligation.
