The Downland Chorale performs a wide range of repertoire,
both new and old. Over the years, some of the works they
have performed include these major choral works: ‘Requiem’
by Rutter, Faure, Durufle and Mozart, ‘Messiah’
by Handel, ‘Gloria’ by Puccini and Vivaldi,
‘St John Passion’ and ‘Magnificat’
by Bach, ‘Belshazzar’s Feast’ by Walton,
‘Dream of Gerontious’ by Elgar
Other
pieces have included ‘Dido and Aeneas’ by Purcell,
motets by Bruckner, madrigals and folk songs.
In
2008, the repertoire included: ‘Chanson des Roses’
by Morten Laurisden, a selection from ‘Les Miserables’
by Boubil & Schoenberg, ‘Mass for the Armed Man’
by Karl Jenkins and a jazz mass setting by Steve Dobrogosz.
Singing in a choir is a satisfying and rewarding pastime and
it can bring great enjoyment to both the performer and listener.
Being in a hardworking team is also rewarding and the Downland
Chorale has social events throughout the year including tours
abroad where members can get to know each other. Many of our
members are good friends and new members are always made to
feel very welcome.
